What Is UHMWPE Hose?
UHMWPE hose is a suction and discharge hose lined with ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene. The FLEXI HOSE® construction is a smooth white synthetic rubber tube with a translucent UHMWPE lining, high tensile synthetic plies reinforced with helical steel wire, and a blue EPDM cover resistant to chemical products, ozone, weather and abrasion, in a wrap finish.
The catalogued application is suction and discharge of a wide range of chemicals, solvents and other corrosive fluids. The reason plants specify a UHMWPE hose rather than a rubber-lined transfer hose is chemical breadth: the polyethylene liner is inert to a far wider set of media than a nitrile or EPDM tube, so one hose type can serve several duties in a plant rather than a different compound for each.

How to Select a Chemical Transfer Hose for a Saudi Plant
Four questions, in order. On a chemical duty the first one decides the answer more than any other.
Media — name the fluid, not the category
“Chemical” is not a specification. Send the fluid name, concentration and temperature. A UHMWPE hose is catalogued for suction and discharge of a wide range of chemicals, solvents and other corrosive fluids, but breadth is not universality, and we confirm each fluid against the liner before quoting rather than after.
Duty — suction or discharge only?
The helical steel wire in a UHMWPE hose is what allows it to hold shape under suction. A discharge-only line does not need that, and a lay flat hose will store in a fraction of the space. If the pump pulls rather than pushes, the helix is not optional.
Temperature — the fluid, at its hottest
The published service range is −20 °C to +120 °C, the widest upper limit in the FLEXI HOSE® transfer range. Chemical resistance is temperature dependent, so a fluid that is compatible at ambient may not be at 90 °C. Quote us the worst-case operating temperature rather than the average.
Bore, length and end connections
Bore is set by required flow and by the pump’s suction capability, not by the flange already on the line. Eight bores from 3/4 inch to 4 inch are catalogued. Send bore, assembly length and the end connection type at each end, and we will confirm what can be supplied against the table above.
Where the medium is water, oil or dry bulk rather than a chemical, a purpose-built grade will cost less and last longer: see water suction and discharge, oil suction and discharge or bulk material hose. Specifying a UHMWPE hose for plain water duty is over-engineering.
