The single-braid grade. Same tube, cover and temperature range as SAE 100 R2, at roughly half the working pressure. Specified where circuit pressure does not justify a second braid.
Four spiral plies wrapped in alternating directions. The grade to move to when SAE 100 R2 will not carry the circuit pressure at the bore you need.
Textile braid rather than wire. Used on low pressure hydraulic and return lines where the flexibility of a textile reinforcement is worth more than pressure capability.
The lowest pressure grade in the series. Single textile braid for pilot lines, lubrication lines and low pressure return duty.

How to Select SAE 100 R2 for a Saudi Hydraulic Circuit
Four questions, in order. Answering them in this sequence is what stops a hose being specified on bore alone.
Media — what is in the line?
SAE 100 R2 is catalogued for hydraulic systems with petroleum or water based fluid, and for fuel and lubricating oils. The tube is a black oil resistant synthetic rubber compound. If the medium is a phosphate ester, a strong solvent or a corrosive chemical, this grade is the wrong product and a UHMWPE lined hose should be considered instead.
Pressure — including surge
Match the circuit’s maximum continuous pressure to the working pressure at the bore you need, not at the smallest bore in the table. Working pressure falls steeply with bore: 5800 PSI / 400 BAR at 1/4 inch, 2400 PSI / 165 BAR at 1 inch, 1160 PSI / 80 BAR at 2 inch. Pressure surge and rapid cycling both consume margin, so size against the peak the circuit actually sees.
Temperature — fluid and ambient
The published service temperature for this grade is −40 °C to +100 °C. In Saudi summer conditions the ambient figure is rarely the constraint; sustained fluid temperature is. If the reservoir runs hot, or the hose is routed close to an exhaust, add heat sleeving rather than assuming margin that is not published.
Bore and routing
Bore is set by required flow, not by the fitting already on the machine. Undersized bore raises fluid velocity, and the resulting heat shortens hose life long before pressure does. If the answers point above the two-wire braid pressure line at your bore — a common outcome on 1 inch and larger circuits — move to EN 856 4SP / 4SH rather than accepting a reduced safety margin. Moving down a grade to SAE 100 R1 is equally valid where the circuit does not need the second braid.
