What this grade is

The Vardhman High Voltage Electrical Insulating Mat is personal protective equipment. It goes on the floor in front of open switchboards, panels and high voltage equipment so that a person standing on it is insulated from ground while working live or while switching.

It is ISI marked and ERDA and CPRI type tested, and it also meets BS 921, IEC 61111 and ASTM. It works in both AC and DC applications. The compound is a synthetic elastomer, resistant to acid, alkali, diesel and transformer oil, flame retardant, low temperature resistant, and finished anti-skid so it does not become a slip hazard in the very place you least want one.

Specify by class. The class is set by the working voltage of the equipment the mat stands in front of, not by preference.

How it is built

Electrically rated

Three classes to 3.3 KV, 11 KV and 33 KV maximum use voltage, with AC proof voltages of 10 KV, 22 KV and 36 KV. Suitable for both AC and DC.

Chemically resistant

Resistant to acid, alkali, diesel and transformer oil. After 48 hours immersed, it retains at least 80 per cent of tensile strength and elongation.

Safe underfoot

Flame retardant, low temperature resistant, and finished anti-skid. Composition is a synthetic elastomer.

What this product is not rated for

Naming the limit is part of specifying correctly. If your duty sits outside any of these, say so when you enquire and we will point you at the right grade.

  • Not a substitute for isolation. The mat is personal protective equipment. It does not make live work safe on its own and it does not replace lock-out, earthing or a permit system.
  • Not rated above its class. Class A is 3.3 KV, Class B is 11 KV and Class C is 33 KV maximum use voltage. Standing a Class A mat in front of an 11 KV panel is a defect, not a saving.
  • Not to be used damaged. Cuts, embedded swarf, punctures and chemical attack destroy the insulation. A damaged mat is withdrawn and replaced, not patched.
  • Not covered by our hose quality certification. Our quality management certificate names hose manufacture, not insulating mats, so we do not put it on this page. The approvals that do apply to this product are the ISI mark and the ERDA and CPRI type tests.
  • Not supplied without a class stated. Tell us the working voltage of the equipment and we will confirm the class in writing on the quote.

Where it is used

Applications named in the catalogue for this grade, industry by industry.

Switchboard fronts

In front of open switchboards, panels and breakers.

Substations

Control rooms, switchyards and transformer bays.

Industrial plant

MCC rooms, distribution boards and plant electrical rooms.

Maintenance work

Wherever a person stands to switch or test live equipment.

Made at one works, supplied across India

One factory, no trading

Compounding, braiding, extrusion and curing happen at F-621, RIICO Industrial Area, Bhiwadi, Rajasthan. In the hose industry since 1980, manufacturing since 1993.

Tested in-house

Our own laboratory runs tensile, elongation, ageing, specific gravity, hydrostatic pressure, dimensional, chemical resistance, melting temperature, ash content and rheometer tests. Batch test reports are available with an order.

Domestic and export dispatch

Domestic despatch across India, and export to the GCC, Egypt, South Africa and the USA. Tell us the delivery city and we will confirm the lead time with the quote.

Tell us the duty. We will spec it and quote it.

Send these five things and we can come back the same working day.

  1. Working voltage of the equipment the mat stands in front of
  2. Class required, if you already know it
  3. Roll width and total length needed
  4. Quantity
  5. Delivery city
  1. You send the lines above
  2. We confirm the grade, the size and the quantity
  3. You get a written quote the same working day

Tell us the working voltage rather than the class if you are unsure, and we will confirm the class on the quote.

Questions

What is an electrical insulating mat used for?

It is personal protective equipment laid on the floor in front of open switchboards, panels and high voltage equipment. A person standing on it is insulated from ground while switching or working live. It is used in both AC and DC applications.

What are the classes of insulating mat?

Three. Class A is 2.0 mm thick and rated to 3.3 KV maximum use voltage. Class B is 2.5 mm and rated to 11 KV. Class C is 3.0 mm and rated to 33 KV. AC proof voltages are 10 KV, 22 KV and 36 KV respectively.

Which class of insulating mat do I need?

Specify from the working voltage of the equipment the mat stands in front of. A 415 V or 3.3 KV board takes Class A, an 11 KV board takes Class B, and a 33 KV board takes Class C. If you are unsure, send us the voltage and we will confirm the class.

Is the mat ISI marked?

Yes. It is ISI marked and ERDA and CPRI type tested, and it also meets BS 921, IEC 61111 and ASTM.

What is the dielectric strength of the mat?

AC dielectric strength is 30 KV for Class A, 45 KV for Class B and 65 KV for Class C. Maximum leakage current is less than 10 mA for all three classes.

Is the mat oil and chemical resistant?

Yes. It resists acid, alkali, diesel and transformer oil, and after 48 hours of immersion it retains at least 80 per cent of both tensile strength and elongation. It is also flame retardant and low temperature resistant.

What sizes and colours are available?

Roll widths, lengths and colours are confirmed against the order. Send us the quantity and the class you need and we will come back with the current options and the lead time.

How long has Vardhman been making insulating mats?

Since 1996, at our works at Bhiwadi, Rajasthan. The company has been in the hose industry since 1980 and manufacturing since 1993.
