What Is an Air Hose?
An air hose is a reinforced rubber hose that carries compressed air from a compressor to pneumatic tools and equipment. What separates one air hose from another is its working pressure and its reinforcement: textile yarn braids for general compressed air duty, and a steel wire braid where pressures reach rock drill levels.
FLEXI HOSE® supplies four air hose types to Saudi Arabia. Air Hose Type 1 and Air Hose Type 2 conform to IS 446-2017 and are manufactured under BIS licence. Air Hose 20 Bar exceeds IS 446 Type 2 for tougher compressor duty, and the Air / Rock Drill Hose exceeds IS 446 Type 3 with a single braid of high tensile brass coated steel wire, giving the highest pressure rating in the range at 510 PSI / 35 BAR.

Construction: Type 1 uses single or double high tenacity synthetic textile yarn braids over a modified natural and synthetic rubber lining. Type 2 and Rock Drill use a nitrile rubber based lining. Rock Drill is reinforced with a single braid of high tensile brass coated steel wire. All four carry a cover resistant to ageing and abrasion. How to Select the Correct Compressed Air Line
Four checks, in order, before you raise a purchase order.
Match the Compressor, Not the Tool
Specify against the compressor’s maximum discharge pressure rather than the tool’s rated inlet pressure. A reciprocating compressor set to cut out at 12 bar will briefly exceed the 10 BAR rating of a Type 1 line. Where cut-out pressure sits above 10 bar, move to the 16 BAR or 20 BAR grade.
Account for Saudi Ambient Heat
Rubber loses burst strength as temperature rises, and a line lying on a Jubail or Yanbu hardstand in summer runs far hotter than the compressed gas inside it. Type 1 and Type 2 are rated to +70 °C; the 20 Bar and Rock Drill grades carry a wider −30 °C to +80 °C range and are the safer specification for exposed runs.
Size the Bore for Pressure Drop
Undersized bore is the most common cause of tools underperforming at the end of a long run. Pressure drop rises sharply with length, so for drops over 30 metres step up one bore size rather than accepting the loss. All four grades share the same 1/2 inch to 2 inch range, so you can step up without changing coupling standards.
Never Substitute for Abrasive Service
A pneumatic line carrying abrasive media will wear through from the inside within hours. Blasting requires the Sand Blast Hose, which exceeds IS 5894 and has an extra thick seamless lining free from mineral filler. Equally, never fit worm-gear clamps on a high pressure pneumatic line — use couplings rated to the working pressure.
