What Is SAE 100 R6 Hose?
SAE 100 R6 is the lowest pressure grade in the FLEXI HOSE® hydraulic range, built with a single braid of high tenacity textile yarn. One braid instead of two means less reinforcement, a thinner wall and a hose that bends more readily than anything else in the ladder. At 1/2 inch bore its mean outside diameter is 21.00 mm against 23.00 mm for the two braid grade.
The construction is a black oil resistant synthetic rubber lining, one braid of high tenacity textile yarn, and a synthetic rubber cover resistant to weather, ageing and abrasion. The catalogued application is broader than a pure hydraulic hose: low pressure hydraulic oils, fuels, lubricating oil, anti-freeze solution and water. That last pair is what puts SAE 100 R6 on machines where a hydraulic grade would not otherwise appear.
Pressure runs 400 PSI / 28 BAR at 1/2 inch down to 190 PSI / 13 BAR at 1 inch, with minimum burst pressure at four times working pressure on every bore. How to Select a Low Pressure Hose Grade
Four checks. On low pressure circuits the fluid question is usually the deciding one, because the pressures involved rarely trouble any braided hose.
1. Identify the fluid first
This grade covers an unusually wide list: low pressure hydraulic oils, fuels, lubricating oil, anti-freeze solution and water. Very few hydraulic hoses are catalogued for anti-freeze and water as well as oil, and that breadth is often why an SAE 100 R6 hose is specified over a purpose-made coolant hose. Confirm the fluid against the catalogued list before anything else.
2. Confirm the pressure is genuinely low
Working pressure runs 400 PSI / 28 BAR at 1/2 inch down to 190 PSI / 13 BAR at 1 inch. Those are modest figures and the grade should not be pressed into a circuit that occasionally spikes above them. If in doubt, step up to the two braid R3 grade, which carries roughly two and a half times the pressure at the same bore.
3. Use the flexibility deliberately
A single braid and a thin wall give the tightest bend radius in the range. That is the reason to choose this grade rather than an accidental consequence of it. Tight routing inside engine bays, machine frames and control panels is where it earns its place, and where a stiffer hose forces extra fittings.
4. Check the temperature at the hose
Service temperature is −40 °C to +100 °C. On coolant and anti-freeze duty the fluid can sit near the top of that band in Saudi summer conditions while the surrounding air is hotter still. Measure at the hose rather than relying on a system design figure.

The single braid grade shows up wherever a circuit is low pressure but the routing is difficult or the fluid is unusual.
Engine coolant and anti-freeze lines
Anti-freeze solution is a catalogued fluid for this grade, which is uncommon in hydraulic hose. Generator sets, compressors and heavy equipment running across the Kingdom use it on coolant runs where a moulded rubber hose cannot be sourced quickly.
Pilot and control circuits
Pilot lines carry very little pressure but must snake through crowded machine frames to reach valve blocks. Thin wall and tight bend radius are worth more here than pressure capability, which is why the smaller bores dominate this duty.
Lubrication reels and dispensing
Fleet workshops in Riyadh, Dammam and Jeddah run overhead lube reels that coil and uncoil many times a day. A hose that resists kinking through thousands of cycles lasts longer on a reel than a stiffer hose of higher rating.
Fuel supply and return on small plant
