What Is an Electrical Insulating Mat?
An electrical insulating mat — also known as a rubber insulating mat — is a rubber sheet laid on the floor in front of live electrical equipment. Classed as Personal Protection Equipment, it insulates the operator from earth and protects against electric shock when switchgear is operated. Vardhman® has manufactured electrical insulating mats in India since 1996.
The mat is selected by the maximum use voltage of the equipment it sits in front of — not by its di-electric strength, which is a test value showing margin above that rating. Every class is ISI marked and type tested by ERDA and CPRI, and meets BS 921, IEC 61111 and ASTM. The compound is a synthetic elastomer, flame retardant, low temperature resistant, and resistant to acid, alkali, diesel and transformer oil, with an anti-skid finish.
Electrical Insulating Mat Classes for UAE
Three classes covering low voltage through 33 KV switchgear. Select by the maximum use voltage of the equipment the mat will sit in front of.

Low Voltage Panels
Max use voltage 3.3 KV
The thinnest class, for low voltage switchboards and distribution panels.

11 KV Switchgear
Max use voltage 11 KV
The most commonly specified class, for 11 KV switchgear rooms and industrial substations.

33 KV Switchyards
Max use voltage 33 KV
The high voltage class, for 33 KV switchyards and primary substations.

How to Specify and Maintain an Insulating Mat
Four checks that decide whether the matting will pass an electrical safety audit.
Specify by Equipment Voltage
Select the class from the maximum use voltage of the switchgear the matting sits in front of, never from the di-electric strength figure. Class A covers up to 3.3 KV, Class B up to 11 KV and Class C up to 33 KV.
Cover the Full Working Area
The operator must be standing on the matting throughout the switching operation. Measure the full width of the panel run and allow generous depth in front of it — matting is made to order, so specify the area rather than a fixed sheet size.
Check the Environment
Substations and electrical rooms at refineries and petrochemical plants carry a real risk of oil and chemical exposure. The compound resists acid, alkali, diesel and transformer oil, retaining a minimum 80% of tensile strength and elongation after 48 hours immersion.
Retain the Test Certificate
Each consignment ships with its own test certificate. Auditors normally ask for the certificate alongside the ISI mark, so file it with the panel records at handover.
Where Insulating Mats Are Used in UAE
Vardhman® insulating matting in front of live electrical equipment across the UAE.
Substations & Switchyards
Class C matting rated to 33 KV maximum use voltage laid in front of primary switchgear and control panels at UAE transmission and distribution substations.
Petrochemical & Refineries
Flame retardant matting resistant to acid, alkali, diesel and transformer oil for electrical rooms at Ruwais, Fujairah and Jebel Ali, where spill exposure is a real risk.
Steel Plants & Foundries
Class B matting for 11 KV switchgear serving furnaces and rolling mills, alongside FLEXI HOSE® cable coolant hose on the same cooling circuits.
Desalination & Water Plants
Insulating matting for pump house and motor control centre electrical rooms at UAE desalination and water treatment facilities.
Construction & Infrastructure
Temporary and permanent site substations on UAE construction and infrastructure projects, where PPE compliance is audited before energisation.
Free Zones & Re-Export
Class A and Class B matting for distribution boards and panel rooms at free-zone warehousing, logistics and light-assembly facilities across JAFZA, Hamriyah and SAIF.
Why Buy Insulating Mats from Vardhman?
What electrical contractors and plant safety teams in UAE look for when specifying PPE matting.
Manufacturing Since 1996
A long-standing product line, not a recent addition to the catalogue.
ISI Marked
The class you order is backed by a certification mark, not a supplier's own declaration.
