What Is a Water Suction Hose?
A water suction hose is a large bore rubber hose built with an embedded helical steel wire so it will not collapse under negative pressure. That single feature is what separates it from a discharge-only hose: a pump pulling water needs a wall that holds its shape against vacuum. The FLEXI HOSE® grade is rated to 0.9 bar vacuum on every catalogued bore.
The FLEXI HOSE® construction is a smooth black SBR rubber tube, high tensile synthetic plies with helical steel wire, and an SBR/EPDM cover that is abrasion and weather resistant, black, wrap finish, plain cover. The catalogued application is conveying water and sewage discharge in mining, construction sites and industry.
In Saudi Arabia the duty is usually dewatering. Excavations across Riyadh, the Red Sea and NEOM construction fronts, open pit work at Ma’aden operations, and municipal sewage transfer all run pumps that must lift water rather than only push it. A water suction hose is the correct specification for those jobs. Where the medium is fuel or mineral oil, the Saudi oil suction hose grade applies instead, and the full large bore range sits on the suction and discharge hose page.

Water Suction Hose in the FLEXI HOSE® 10 Bar Transfer Range
Five large bore transfer hoses are exported to Saudi Arabia from the 10 bar series. The water grade is the general purpose member of that family. Every figure below is taken verbatim from the FLEXI HOSE® catalogue.

The grade covered on this page. Smooth black SBR tube, helical steel wire reinforcement and an abrasion resistant SBR/EPDM cover, for water and sewage discharge.

For suction and delivery of fuel and mineral oils having aromatic contents up to 50 per cent. Same pressure class, oil resistant compound.

Where the medium is chemically aggressive rather than water. Translucent polyethylene lining, blue EPDM cover, higher pressure class.

Discharge only. No helical wire, so it is not a suction hose, but it stores flat and is lighter to handle over long discharge runs.

Highly abrasion resistant NR/SBR tube for dry solids and slurries. Specified when the water being moved carries a heavy solids load.

Construction: smooth black SBR rubber tube; high tensile synthetic plies with helical steel wire; SBR/EPDM cover, abrasion and weather resistant, black, wrap finish, plain cover. Service temperature −30 °C to +80 °C. Every bore of this water suction hose carries the same 10 bar working pressure and 0.9 bar vacuum rating, so pressure class does not change when you change size. The 8 inch coil is catalogued at 10/20 m; confirm the length you need on the quotation.
How to Select a Water Suction Hose
Four decisions, in this order. Getting the order right avoids the most common specification errors we see on export enquiries.
1. Confirm the medium
A water suction hose has an SBR tube. SBR handles water, sewage and general site slurry, and it does not handle fuel or mineral oil. If there is any hydrocarbon in the line, the NBR-lined oil grade is required instead. If the medium is a chemical or solvent, the polyethylene-lined UHMWPE grade applies. Choosing the tube compound first prevents a hose that swells and fails in service.
2. Confirm suction or discharge only
This is the decision that gives the product its name. If the pump draws the water — from a sump, a pit, a tank or open ground — you need the helix-reinforced water suction hose rated to 0.9 bar vacuum. If the hose only sits downstream of the pump, a lay flat discharge hose is lighter and cheaper. Fitting a lay flat hose on a suction line collapses it on the first start.
3. Confirm pressure and temperature
The catalogued rating is 10 bar / 150 psi working and 30 bar / 450 psi minimum burst, a three to one margin, across all eleven bores. Service temperature is −30 °C to +80 °C. Site ambient in the Eastern Province and the Empty Quarter sits comfortably inside that band, but check the fluid temperature as well as the air temperature before ordering.
4. Confirm bore and coil length
Bore is set by required flow and by the pump connection, not by convenience. The range runs 19 mm to 203 mm. Standard coil length is 20 m, with the 8 inch bore catalogued at 10/20 m. Order in whole coils where possible; cutting a coil to several short lengths raises the number of couplings and therefore the number of leak points.
Where Water Suction Hose Is Used in Saudi Arabia
The Saudi duty profile is dominated by dewatering, and by moving water in places where there is no permanent pipework.
Construction dewatering
Deep excavation across Riyadh, Jeddah and the giga-project fronts hits groundwater. Contractors run submersible and surface pumps continuously, and the suction leg is the part that fails first if the wrong hose is fitted. The 4 inch to 8 inch bores are the usual dewatering sizes.
Mining and quarry pit drainage
Open pit operations accumulate water that must be lifted out of the pit floor. The abrasion resistant cover matters here because the hose is dragged over rock. Where the water carries a heavy solids load, the bulk material grade is the better choice.
Municipal and industrial sewage
Sewage discharge is a catalogued application for this grade. Vacuum tanker and jetting crews across the Kingdom use the mid bores for suction from chambers and pits, with the 0.9 bar vacuum rating providing the collapse resistance.
Desalination and utility plant
Plants on both the Red Sea and Gulf coasts use temporary transfer lines during commissioning, outage and maintenance work. A water suction hose bridges the gap where a permanent pipe is offline, then comes back on the shelf.
Irrigation and agricultural transfer
Farms in Al-Kharj, Qassim and Tabuk draw from wells and holding tanks. The 2 inch to 4 inch bores dominate here, and the SBR/EPDM cover resists ageing under continuous sun exposure better than an unprotected textile hose.
Firewater and emergency reserve
Plants hold coils as reserve stock for tank washing, spill containment and temporary supply. Because every bore in the range shares one pressure class, a store can hold several sizes without holding several specifications.
Why Buy Water Suction Hose Direct from the Manufacturer
Vardhman Hydraulic Hoses Pvt. Ltd. has manufactured under the FLEXI HOSE® brand since 1980, from a single plant at Bhiwadi, Rajasthan.
Factory direct, no trading layer
You buy from the plant that mixes the compound and builds the hose. That means the specification you are quoted is the specification that is manufactured, and a technical question is answered by the people who made the product rather than by a reseller.
One pressure class across eleven bores
Every catalogued bore of this water suction hose is rated 10 bar working, 30 bar burst and 0.9 bar vacuum. A Saudi store can stock 2 inch through 8 inch without maintaining several pressure specifications, which shortens the approval conversation with a plant engineer.
In-house testing, calibrated equipment
An in-house R&D and test laboratory runs pressure, burst and vacuum checks, with all test equipment calibrated by NABL-accredited bodies. Test certificates are issued per batch, so a dewatering contractor can evidence the rating rather than assert it.
Large bore capability held in stock form
The 5 inch, 6 inch and 8 inch bores are the ones distributors most often cannot source at short notice. They are catalogued here as standard, in 20 m coils, which is what makes a Saudi dewatering enquiry answerable in one quotation rather than three.
Complete export document set
Every shipment carries a commercial invoice, packing list, certificate of origin, bill of lading and test certificates. Terms are FOB, CIF or CFR ex Nhava Sheva (JNPT) or Mundra Port, so customs clearance at the Saudi port is not held up on paperwork.

People Also Ask
Short answers to the questions Saudi buyers search for most often.
What is the difference between a suction hose and a discharge hose?
A suction hose carries an embedded helical steel wire so it resists collapse when the pump pulls a vacuum. A discharge hose sits downstream of the pump and only has to contain positive pressure, so it needs no helix and can be lay flat.
What pressure is a 10 bar water suction hose rated to?
10 bar / 150 psi working pressure with a 30 bar / 450 psi minimum burst. That is a three to one safety margin, and it is identical across all eleven catalogued bores from 19 mm to 203 mm.
Can a water suction hose be used for diesel or oil?
No. The tube is SBR rubber, which is not oil resistant. Fuel and mineral oil duties require the NBR-lined oil suction and discharge grade, which is catalogued in the same eleven bores and the same 10 bar pressure class.
What does a 0.9 bar vacuum rating mean in practice?
It is the negative pressure the hose wall will hold without collapsing inward. Suction lift, long suction runs and partially blocked strainers all increase vacuum, so the rating is what allows the hose to stay round through the whole pump cycle.
What coil lengths are available?
Standard coil length is 20 metres for bores from 19 mm to 152 mm. The 203 mm (8 inch) bore is catalogued at 10/20 m, so the exact length is confirmed on the quotation rather than assumed.
Which bore should be ordered for site dewatering?
Bore follows the pump connection and the flow required. On Saudi construction dewatering the common sizes are 102 mm (4 inch) through 203 mm (8 inch); smaller pits and agricultural transfer usually run 51 mm to 102 mm.
Water Suction Hose — Frequently Asked Questions
Specification, supply and export questions, answered from the FLEXI HOSE® catalogue.
The FLEXI HOSE water suction hose has a smooth black SBR rubber tube, reinforcement of high tensile synthetic plies with a helical steel wire, and an SBR/EPDM cover that is abrasion and weather resistant in a black wrap finish with a plain cover. The helical wire is what gives the hose its 0.9 bar vacuum rating.
Eleven bores are catalogued: 19, 25, 32, 38.5, 51, 63.5, 76, 102, 127, 152 and 203 mm, which is 3/4 inch to 8 inch. Outside diameters run from 29 mm at the smallest bore to 223 mm at the largest. All eleven sizes are exported to Saudi Arabia.
Working pressure is 10 bar / 150 psi and minimum burst pressure is 30 bar / 450 psi. Those figures apply to every bore in the range without variation, which is unusual in large bore hose and makes plant standardisation simpler.
The catalogued service temperature is −30 °C to +80 °C. That covers Saudi ambient conditions across the year, including winter nights in the northern regions and summer surface temperatures in the Eastern Province. Fluid temperature should be checked separately from air temperature.
Yes. The catalogued application is conveying water and sewage discharge in mining, construction sites and industries. Where the flow carries a heavy abrasive solids load rather than suspended sewage, the bulk material suction and discharge grade with its NR/SBR abrasion resistant tube is the better specification.
The catalogue lists the hose in coils. End connections are handled as a separate line on the quotation, so state the coupling type and standard you use on site — camlock, flanged or threaded — when you send the enquiry, and it will be quoted alongside the hose.
No. The BIS licences held by Vardhman Hydraulic Hoses cover the Water Hose to IS 444-2017 Type 2 and the Air Hose to IS 446-2017, not the 10 bar large bore transfer series.
Batch test certificates covering pressure and dimensional checks travel with every shipment, alongside the commercial invoice, packing list, certificate of origin and bill of lading. Testing is carried out in an in-house laboratory using equipment calibrated by NABL-accredited bodies.
Sea transit from Nhava Sheva or Mundra runs 7 to 9 days to Jeddah, 7 to 10 to Dammam, 8 to 10 to Jubail and Yanbu, 9 to 12 to Riyadh via Dammam, and 10 to 14 to NEOM and Tabuk. Those windows exclude customs clearance and inland haulage.
