What a steam hose pipe costs in India, and why quotes differ

Marketplace listings for steam hose run from tens of rupees a metre to a few thousand, and most of that spread has nothing to do with the seller’s margin. It comes from six choices that change what you are actually buying.

A coil of wire-braided steam hose unrolls into a straight run carrying steam to a coupling. A price tag on the run reads rupees per metre, set by six choices. ₹ per metre set by six choices COIL OR CUT LENGTHS BARE ENDS OR FITTED COUPLINGS
The per-metre figure on a listing is only one line of the quote. Ends, lengths and paperwork sit on top of it.

Quick answer

IndiaMART’s steam hose category, read on 11 October 2026, listed prices from ₹20 to ₹2,700 per metre, with a median of ₹200, but those listings mix rubber, stainless steel, textile-braided and hydraulic hose. Six choices move a real quote: the pressure and temperature grade, the bore, one or two wire braids, fitted couplings, length and cut, and test certificates. Two quotes only compare when all six lines match.

We do not publish a price list for our steam hose. Every enquiry is quoted in writing, because the price depends on grade, bore, length and whether ends are fitted, and a single rupee figure would hide all four. What we can do is show what public listings say today, explain why two quotes for “1 inch steam hose” can be several times apart, and set out how to ask for quotes you can compare. This guide covers what steam hose listings show today, the six things that change the price, why a cheap hose can cost more over a year, and how to get a like-for-like quote.

What steam hose listings on IndiaMART show today

On 11 October 2026 we read the first page of IndiaMART’s steam hose category. It showed 28 listings with a per-metre price. Those prices ran from ₹20 to ₹2,700 per metre, the median was ₹200, and 21 of the 28 sat between ₹100 and ₹350. A day earlier, on 10 October 2026, our research notes recorded ₹330/m to ₹2,700/m on IndiaMART, which shows how much the visible range depends on which listings appear that day.

Read the listing details and the spread starts to make sense. The same page carried stainless steel flexible hose, a yarn-braided hose described as 17 bar, a hose whose model number is the hydraulic code SAE 100R6, an FDA-labelled EPDM hose, a listing titled “Type 3” that gave a working pressure of 10 bar, and the ₹2,700 listing, titled “Hydraulic Steam Hoses” and described with 37-degree hydraulic fittings. Even at one bore the range is wide: listings giving a 1 inch or 25 mm bore ran from ₹100 to ₹2,700 per metre.

Every listing on the page carries a “Contact Supplier” button, and that is the honest way to read the figure: a starting point for a conversation, not a price for your duty. None of these figures are ours, and we do not quote ours here either.

Six things that change the price of a steam hose

When we price a steam hose enquiry, these are the six lines that move the number. Two quotes that differ on any one of them are quoting different products.

The six price drivers, in the order they usually matter on a steam hose quote.

  • Driver 1GradeWhat the hose is rated to carryWire or textile, published burst, temperature ceiling.
  • Driver 2Bore1/2" to 2"More rubber and more wire per metre as bore rises.
  • Driver 3Braid countOne braid 10 BAR · two braid 17 BARA second layer of steel wire and a thicker wall.
  • Driver 4FittingsBare ends or made-up assemblyCouplings that grip the wire, fitted to the hose.
  • Driver 5Length and cutCoil or cut lengthsNumber of lengths sets the number of ends.
  • Driver 6Test reportsTest certificate or noneEvidence the hose matches the sheet.

1. Grade: what the hose is actually rated and built to carry

“Steam hose” on a listing can mean anything from a textile-braided tube to a wire-braided hose with a published burst figure. The grade is the combination of reinforcement, tube compound, pressure rating and temperature ceiling. Our steam hose uses a heat-resistant EPDM tube and cover with high-tensile brass-coated steel wire, and states both numbers on every grade: 145 PSI / 10 BAR working against a minimum burst of 1450 PSI / 100 BAR, and −40 °C to +195 °C, for the one-braid grade, which exceeds IS 10655 Type 2. A cheaper listing that prints no burst figure, or uses textile instead of wire, is not a cheaper version of the same thing.

2. Bore: more rubber and more wire in every metre

Price per metre climbs with bore because the hose gets bigger all round, not just inside. We publish the mean outside diameter for every size, and the chart shows how fast it grows: a 2" one-braid hose is three times the outside diameter of a 1/2" hose, which means a larger circumference of tube, braid and cover in every metre. Pressure stays the same at every bore within a grade, so a bigger bore buys more flow, not more pressure.

Horizontal bars of mean outside diameter in millimetres. One wire braid: 21.5 at half inch, 29.0 at three quarter inch, 35.5 at one inch, 42.5 at one and a quarter inch, 50.5 at one and a half inch, 64.5 at two inch. Two wire braid: 24.0, 31.0, 38.0 and 45.0 for the first four sizes, not catalogued at one and a half and two inch. 3. Braid count: one layer of steel wire or two

The second braid is the difference between our two grades. It adds a full layer of brass-coated steel wire and a thicker wall, and it takes the rating to 250 PSI / 17 BAR working, 2500 PSI / 170 BAR minimum burst and +232 °C, a grade that exceeds IS 10655 Type 3. You pay for the extra wire and wall in every metre. It is worth paying for when your pressure at the hose is above 10 BAR, or the temperature is above +195 °C, and not otherwise. It is catalogued only to 1-1/4"; for 1-1/2" or 2" at 17 BAR, ask us before you assume it exists.

4. Fittings: bare hose or a made-up assembly

A per-metre price describes the hose, not the ends. Fitted couplings also move the HSN code from 4009.21 to 4009.22. Steam needs interlocking or crimped couplings that grip the wire, sized to the mean outside diameter, and those couplings, plus the labour to fit them, are a separate line. We supply made-up assemblies with ends fitted on request. A worm-drive clamp on a barbed tail looks cheaper on paper, but it loosens with thermal cycling and is not a steam fitting, so a quote built on clamps is not comparable with one built on steam couplings.

5. Length and cut: one coil or many short lengths

The same total metres can be bought as one long run or as ten short assemblies, and they do not cost the same. Every cut length needs two ends, so the number of lengths, not the total metres, sets how many couplings are on the quote. When you compare offers, compare the price per finished assembly as well as the price per metre.

6. Test reports: proof the hose matches the sheet

We run ten in-house tests, including hydrostatic pressure, dimensional, ageing and tensile checks, on NABL-calibrated equipment, and supply test certificates with every consignment. A quote that includes a test certificate and one that does not are offering different levels of evidence. If your plant’s quality team needs the report to accept the hose, ask for it in the enquiry, so every supplier prices the same thing.

Why a cheap steam hose can cost more over a year

The purchase price is paid once; the cost of a steam hose is paid every time it comes out of service. We do not put a rupee figure on that, because it depends on your plant, but the lines below are where an under-specified hose shows up in the year after purchase.

Where the cost of a steam hose lands across a year of service, for a hose bought on price alone versus one specified for the duty.

Cost lineBought on listing price aloneSpecified for the duty
RatingNo published burst, or textile braid on a cycling lineWorking and burst pressure printed, steel wire braid
Grade marginOne braid on a line that runs above 10 BAR or +195 °CGrade chosen from pressure and temperature at the hose
EndsWorm-drive clamps that loosen with thermal cyclingInterlocking or crimped steam couplings
RetirementEarly removal for a bulge, soft spot or weeping couplingReplacement interval set from duty and cycle count
EvidenceNothing to check the hose againstTest certificate against the order

Removal criteria and fitting guidance as published for Flexihose rubber steam hose. No costs are estimated; the table shows where costs arise.

Each retirement is a second purchase plus the work of isolating the line, swapping the hose and refitting ends. Our removal rule is simple: take a hose out if the cover is cracked through, there is a bulge or soft spot, wire is visible or rusting, or a coupling weeps under pressure. A hose that hits one of those early, because it was the wrong grade or carried clamps, has cost its purchase price twice. The hose that was dearer per metre but stays in service to its planned interval is the cheaper one over the year.

How to get a like-for-like steam hose quote

Send every supplier the same five facts, and ask each one to answer the same six lines. Then the quotes line up, and the cheapest one is cheapest for a reason you can see.

The five facts every steam hose supplier needs before quoting, from our own enquiry checklist.

  1. 1BoreIn inches or mm.
  2. 2Pressure at the hoseNot the boiler figure.
  3. 3Temperature and steam typeSaturated or superheated.
  4. 4Length and number of lengthsSets the count of ends.
  5. 5Couplings, ends, cityFitted or bare, and delivery location.

With those facts in hand, ask every supplier to state the same six lines in writing: the grade and the standard it claims, with working and burst pressure; the bore and mean outside diameter; one or two wire braids; the coupling type, fitted or loose; the number and length of assemblies; and whether a test certificate comes with the order. Read the standard claim carefully. “Exceeds IS 10655 Type 2”, the claim we make, is a performance statement, not a BIS licence. Our guide to reading steam hose pipe specifications walks through each line of a spec sheet and the red flags to look for.

When you are ready, send the five facts through our contact page, by WhatsApp or by email, and we will quote in writing against the same six lines, so you can set our offer next to anyone else’s.

Ask for a written quote on the same six lines

A listing price tells you what a seller hopes to start at, not what a steam hose for your line will cost. Grade, bore, braid count, fittings, length and test reports decide that, and a quote that leaves any of them out cannot be compared. Send the same five facts to every supplier, insist on the same six lines back, and judge the cost over a year rather than per metre. For a written quote against your duty, send your numbers to Flexihose.

FAQ

How much does a 100 meter hose pipe cost?

For steam hose there is no fixed figure. At the ₹200 per metre median of the IndiaMART steam hose listings we read on 11 October 2026, 100 metres works out near ₹20,000 before couplings, tax and freight. Listings ranged from ₹20 to ₹2,700 per metre, so treat that as arithmetic, not a price.

How much does a 50 meter hose cost?

It depends on how the 50 metres is cut. Fifty metres of steam hose is often bought as several assemblies rather than one run, and each length needs two couplings and the labour to fit them. Ten 5 metre assemblies therefore cost more than one 50 metre length of the same hose.

What is the price of a hose pipe?

There is no single price, because the term covers garden hose, steam hose and hydraulic hose alike. The first page of IndiaMART steam hose listings we read on 11 October 2026 ran from ₹20 to ₹2,700 per metre, mixing stainless steel, yarn-braided and wire-braided products. Compare by specification first.

What type of pipe is best for steam lines?

A permanent steam line is normally rigid metal pipe, designed and supported to the plant's piping code, because it has to hold pressure for years without moving. Flexible hose belongs only where a connection moves, vibrates or is regularly disconnected. Our rubber steam hose is not a substitute for fixed steam piping.

What is the burst pressure of a hose?

It is the minimum pressure a new hose must withstand in test before it fails. Our steam hose is rated 1450 PSI / 100 BAR minimum burst on the one-braid grade and 2500 PSI / 170 BAR on the two-braid grade, ten times working. A listing without a burst figure cannot be priced like-for-like.
