What Is a UHMWPE Hose?
A UHMWPE hose is a suction and discharge hose whose wetted surface is ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene rather than rubber. The FLEXI HOSE® construction is a smooth white synthetic rubber tube carrying a translucent UHMWPE lining, high tensile synthetic plies reinforced with helical steel wire, and a blue EPDM cover resistant to chemical products, ozone, weather and abrasion in a wrap finish.
The catalogued application is suction and discharge of a wide range of chemicals, solvents and other corrosive fluids. What makes a UHMWPE hose different from a rubber transfer hose is chemical breadth rather than pressure: the polyethylene liner is inert to a far wider set of media than a nitrile or EPDM tube, so one hose specification covers several duties on a site instead of a different compound for each medium.
In the United Arab Emirates that argument lands hardest in two places. UHMWPE Hose in the FLEXI HOSE® Transfer Range
Four large bore transfer grades are exported to the UAE. The polyethylene-lined grade is the one specified where the medium is chemically aggressive. Every figure below is taken verbatim from the FLEXI HOSE® catalogue.
The grade this page covers. Eight bores, one pressure rating, one temperature range. Because every bore in the UHMWPE hose range carries the same 240 PSI / 16 BAR working pressure, a plant can standardise on the specification and vary only the diameter.
Where the medium is water or sewage rather than chemical, the SBR-lined grade is the correct and cheaper answer. Bores 19 mm to 203 mm, 10 bar / 150 psi working, 30 bar / 450 psi burst, vacuum rated to 0.9 bar, in 20 metre coils.
For fuel and mineral oils with aromatic content up to 50%. Same 19 mm to 203 mm bore ladder, same 10 bar / 150 psi working pressure and 0.9 bar vacuum rating, with an NBR tube and an oil, fuel, ozone and abrasion resistant cover.
Above +120 °C the polyethylene liner is out of range and the answer is a PTFE core under a stainless braid: 3.5 mm to 50 mm bore, rated −65 °C to +260 °C. It is a small bore product and does not replace a large bore UHMWPE hose on transfer duty.

How to Select a Chemical Transfer Hose
Media, then pressure, then temperature, then bore. In that order, because each answer narrows the next.
1. List every medium the hose will see, including the wash
The most common specification error on chemical transfer is sizing for the product and forgetting the cleaning cycle. A line that carries a mild solvent for six hours and then a caustic clean-in-place wash for one has to survive both. The polyethylene liner is what makes a UHMWPE hose attractive here, because a single liner covers a wide media set instead of matching a compound to each fluid. Send the full media list with the enquiry, wash chemicals included, and the concentration and temperature of each.
2. Check the pressure against the flat 16 bar rating
Every bore in the range is rated 240 PSI / 16 BAR working with 720 PSI / 48 BAR minimum burst. That is a three to one safety factor. Pump discharge pressure, static head and any surge from valve closure all have to sit inside the 16 bar figure. Where they do not, the duty belongs on a different product rather than on a larger UHMWPE hose, because the rating does not improve with size.
3. Confirm the temperature at both ends
The catalogued service range is −20 °C to +120 °C. The upper figure is generous for a lined transfer hose and covers hot caustic wash cycles and warm process streams. The lower figure matters less in the Emirates than the upper one, but it is worth noting for chilled or refrigerated transfer. Above +120 °C the correct product is a PTFE lined hose under a stainless braid, not this one.
4. Fix the bore and the end fittings last
Bore follows from flow rate and acceptable pressure drop, and the range runs 3/4 inch to 4 inch in eight steps. Because the pressure rating is flat, moving up a size to reduce velocity costs nothing in rating. End fittings, camlocks and flanges are made to the customer specification — send the drawing or the existing part number. For duties above 4 inch the answer is the wider UAE suction and discharge range, which runs to 8 inch on the water and oil grades.
