What Is an Industrial Hose?
An industrial hose is a reinforced rubber hose that moves compressed air, steam, water, chemicals or abrasive media around a plant. Each type is defined by its tube compound, its reinforcement and a published working and burst pressure. Choosing the wrong type — not the wrong size — is the most common cause of hose failure in service.
Flexihose India manufactures eight industrial hose families for the UAE market. Outside diameter decides whether the assembly fits the routing and which clamp size is required. Sand blast hose carries by far the thickest wall of the industrial hose range — 70.0 mm outside diameter at 2 inch bore against 64.0 mm for rock drill hose.
How to Select an Industrial Hose Type
Media first, then pressure, then temperature, then bore. In that order.
1. What is the medium?
The tube compound is chosen for the medium, and it cannot be substituted. Water, compressed air, saturated steam, abrasive grit and aggressive chemicals each need a different tube. Running steam through an air hose, or solvent through a water hose, destroys the tube from the inside regardless of how far below the pressure rating the line is running.
2. What is the working pressure?
Match the line pressure to the catalogued working pressure, not to the burst pressure. Burst is a test figure with a safety margin already built in and is never a design target. On compressed air the choice is 145 PSI / 10 BAR for Type 1, 232 PSI / 16 BAR for Type 2, 300 PSI / 20 BAR for the 20 bar grade and 510 PSI / 35 BAR for rock drill duty.
3. What is the temperature?
Service temperature often decides the type before pressure does. Water and Type 1 and Type 2 air hose are catalogued to +70 °C. The 20 bar and rock drill grades reach +80 °C, UHMWPE reaches +120 °C, one wire braid steam hose +195 °C and two wire braid steam hose +232 °C — the highest in the industrial hose range.
4. What bore and coil length?
Bore sets flow and pressure drop; outside diameter sets fit and clamping. Confirm both against the O.D. table above before ordering. For turnaround work at Ruwais or a drydock shutdown, order the coil quantity against the shutdown window rather than annual usage, because the entire consumption falls inside a few weeks.
